About Custom Builder

Custom Builder is the leading business media brand serving custom builders and their residential architect and design partners. Our coverage blends design innovation with business intelligence and includes standout projects, builder-designer dynamics, material and product innovations, and the people bringing complex homes to life. We are builder-first but team aware, also recognizing the essential role of architects and designers in delivering successful one-of-a-kind custom home projects.

Custom Builder has a long history:

  • Our origins trace back to 1991, when we launched as Luxury Home Builder,  owned by Reed Business Information.
  • In 1999, Luxury Home Builder was rebranded as Custom Builder.
  • In 2010, Reed divested its publishing unit and sold Custom Builder to MB Media, a company created by former Reed publishers.
  • MB Media later received investment from Scranton Gilette Communications to form SGC Horizons, a division dedicated to home building and remodeling. 

Most recently, in 2024, Endeavor Business Media acquired Custom Builder, which operates today as a sister publication to Pro Builder and is part of the company's Buildings & Construction Group.
