Benjamin Moore's 2025 Color of the Year is a Muted Purple

Benjamin Moore has announced its 2025 color of the year: Cinnamon Slate. Described as a "delicate mix of heathered plum and velvety brown," the color choice combines two notable design trends spotted by the paint brand.

“As the use of more saturated color in design has increased in recent years, we are seeing a growing interest in more nuanced colors, whose undertones add intricacy and dimension,” said Andrea Magno, director, color marketing & design at Benjamin Moore, in the official release

Bolder home design choices focused on personalization have grown throughout 2024 as a response to more homeowners staying put, remodeling their homes, and caring less about resale value. Instead, homeowners opt for spaces that fulfill their unique desires and lifestyles, with phrases like "dopamine decor" joining the conversation.

"This year, we really started from a more emotional level," said Sharon Grech, color & design spokesperson for Benjamin Moore. "We talked a lot about this need for balance and reassurance and we felt strongly that that can be captured in the home really with restorative color."

According to the National Kitchen and Bath Association’s (NKBA) 2024 Kitchen Design Trends Report, 76% of designers agree that homeowners don’t want a kitchen like everyone else, they want a uniquely personal design.

And at the same time that designers note an increase in unique spaces, there's an increase in natural tones, such as wood grains and browns. Benjamin Moore's selection of Cinnamon Slate as the color of the year 2025 represents a predicted continuation of these trends.

“Cinnamon Slate is an inviting hue that offers enduring style and modern sensibility. Its depth and richness bring an air of approachability and sense of comfort throughout the home, making it a new favorite for years to come," said Magno.

Cinnamon Slate falls into a larger 2025 color palette selected by Benjamin Moore, with similarly moody shades of greens, pinks, brown, and tans that are curated to work well together:

Cinnamon Slate 2113-40
Sea Salt CSP-95
Leather Saddle Brown 2100-20
Chowning’s Tan CW-195
Tissue Pink 1163
Stained Glass CSP-685
Ashwood Moss 1484
Rosepine 461
Paris Rain 1501
Glacier White OC-37

Last year, Benjamin Moore selected Blue Nova, a mid-tone blue that aimed to capture both personality and timelessness. The 2024 selected palette featured a terracotta orange, peachy pink, muted yellow, and a similar shade to Cinnamon Slate, Hazy Lilac.

Valspar selected a royal, nearly cobalt blue for its 2024 color of the year: Encore.

"Encore is a color for any space or application. Its atmospheric deep blue tones emulate both the elusive luxury of Old World design and the futuristic blending of our physical and digital world, making it a color that feels familiar and unexpected at the same time," says Sue Kim, director of color marketing at Valspar.
