Keep these design tips in mind to create kitchens that remain functional for homeowners as they age

There are several factors designers can keep in mind when planning an aging-friendly kitchen. These include: wider pathways, extra pullout drawers, and the proximity of the sink to other appliances.
Homeowners often have to downsize in later years to find a place that's accessible and accommodates their needs. However, that doesn’t have to be the case, according to remodeling and design platform Houzz. When designing a kitchen, there are many strategies custom building and design professionals can keep in mind to ensure a home remains livable for the duration of a homeowners’ lifetime. Some of these strategies include: using pullout drawers instead of cabinet doors, considering the placement of appliances, adding rounded edges to countertops, and more.
Avoid 90-degree angles on countertops and open shelves. The last thing you want is to hit your hip or elbow on a sharp corner as you’re maneuvering in your kitchen. Round edges lessen the likelihood of bumps and bruises.Read more
