A total of 10 projects were recently recognized by the Copper Development Association (CDA) for their outstanding design and craftsmanship using architectural copper. Winners in the association's 2024 North American Copper in Architecture (NACIA) awards include both new construction and historic restoration projects.
The judges selected five new-construction projects, two of which are custom homes:
- Madrone Ridge, a sophisticated residence in Sonoma County, Calif., designed by Field Architecture, which features three copper-clad pavilions. The custom home's copper cladding was selected to improve resilience, reduce maintenance, and establish a visual relationship between the structure and the Madrone trees that surround the home.
- CopperDrifts (shown, above), a 7,000-square-foot modern beach house near Provincetown, Mass., which is located at the Cape Cod National Seashore. Designed by Charles Rose Architects, the home features copper flat-lock and standing-seam exterior panels that have weathered into a rich patina that helps the building's form visually recede within the surrounding landscape.
