Builders can replicate the texture and tones of the Mediterranean with Terramed wall treatment.

A combination of clay, sand and cellulose, Terramed is an all-natural interior finish that is nontoxic, nonflammable, hy-poallergenic, resistant to mildew and environmentally sound. It can be painted, waxed, stained and sealed, and additions such as straw, crushed shells, wild rice and small pebbles can be included in the mixture to create a variety of effects.

“It’s healthy to a home environment and healthy to install,” says Wendes Jones of Terramed distributor Med Imports (www.medimports.net, 866/363-6334). “It’s very clean for the home, and because today’s homes are climate-controlled, it can be installed in homes in all regions.

“People look for this product to have a rustic appearance. The imperfection is what people want as opposed to traditional finishes and drywall. It’s permanent in the sense that if you don’t want it to come off, it won’t. But it’s much easier to take off than wallpaper, for example. All it requires is soaking and scraping it off, or you could just paint over it.”

Terramed comes in 12 colors derived from clays found in Europe’s Med-iterranean Plate, such as French slate, saffron and Roussillon clay. A 55-pound bag costs $125 and, mixed with water, covers about 100 to 120 square feet depending on application and desired thickness.
