In the opening seconds of Custom Builder's new bi-monthly video series Taking Care of Business, host Duane Johns, a custom builder, remodeler, coach and consultant, asks guest Scott Beebe, head coach and founder of My Business on Purpose, a deceptively simple question: "Why does anybody start their business?" It's a question so fundamental you'd think the answer would come as second nature. But as Johns points out, when posed to builders and remodelers, at least in his experience, the question is often answered by crickets. He goes on to ask Beebe, who's client base is largely composed of builders, "why do you think that is?"
Throughout the episode, Johns and Beebe discuss what they believe to be the fundamentals of business, what Beebe specifically calls "The Five Foundational Cornerstones"—vision, mission, values, communication, and hiring. Why start a business? Why run the business a certain way? How do you include your team in ision building, and should you? How do you keep yourself in check as a leader? How do you keep getting better? Topic after topic, the two tackle some of the most undersung though important questions that business owners can and should be asking themselves.
Together, Johns and Beebe represent decades of leadership and coaching experience. Check out the video below to take advantage of their experience, insights and advice.
