The Asphalt Roofing Manufacturers Association is launching a multiyear marketing and advertising campaign to convey the design aesthetic of asphalt roofing shingles, especially in high-end residential applications.

Shingles can be made to resemble slate or wood even though they're simply laminated asphalt. ARMA also cites superior coloration, texture, design and longevity as factors that make asphalt roofing attractive.

"Our member companies' high-end architectural shingles account for over 50% of asphalt shingles sold," says Russ Snyder, executive vice president of ARMA. "Whatever the budget, architectural style or performance needs, there's an asphalt roofing product to match, and in our opinion they have the style and performance attributes to outperform virtually any material on the market."
