One would be hard pressed to find anything "semi" about the luxury production homes offered by Davidson Communities at Cielo, the newly opened gated community in exclusive Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

With prices ranging from $900,000 to $1.5 million, the five models offered by Davidson are certainly not your typical production homes. Impressive, highly detailed exteriors and interiors that feature great floor plans and the finest in finish materials justify their hefty price tags.

Step through the alder wood front door accented by glass and wrought-iron trim, and the graceful sweep of the wrought-iron staircase greets you inside the homeÆs central foyer.

Davidson Communities is building 81 homes at Cielo, the first in a number of distinct enclaves that will be nestled in the hills north of San Diego. The master-planned community will feature a mix of semi-custom and custom homes on sites from one to three acres.

Davidson offers buyers plenty of customization for all five models; including additional bedrooms, lofts, computer rooms, full baths, extra garage spaceùeven cabanas and other structures on the property.

In order to please discriminating buyers who expect individuality in this price range, the builder provides plenty of options for creating a truly unique home. "We offer the maximum flexibility in our floor plans," says Bill Davidson. "Our options program offers hundreds of ways to customize a home."

These include what Davidson calls bolt-on options such as doors, hardware, moldings and appliances.

Offering 3719 square feet of living, the Rice Residence is the smallest of the five plans Davidson is offering at Cielo. There is, however, nothing diminutive about the excitement the home offers.

This kitchen, shown in the Rice Residence model, features a combination of granite, marble and wood countertops. Cabinetry is stained fruitwood. The flooring is strip-plank hardwood.

It features a dramatic two-story foyer accented by a sweeping wrought-iron staircase. The volume ceiling continues into the formal dining room directly ahead. A second-floor bridge traverses this space, connecting the main bedrooms with an isolated guest suite.

The home also features a very convenient upstairs location for the laundry room.

The Rice ResidenceÆs open interior and good traffic pattern facilitates entertaining. The living room directly adjoins the foyer and features a two-way fireplace that is shared with the main-floor library. The central kitchen is directly connected to the formal dining room.

The kitchen, breakfast nook and family room share visual space, becoming a single, multi-function informal zone. Seating is provided at the oversized snack bar/work station that defines the boundaries of the homeÆs meal preparation area.

In addition to this home, Davidson Communities is offering four other models at Cielo. The Shaffer Residence, which offers five bedrooms in 4173 square feet of living space; the 4493-square-foot, four-bedroom Carmichael Residence; the four-bedroom Hilton Residence, which has 4535 square feet of living space; and the largest of the plans, the 6234-square-foot Bingham Residence which features six bedrooms.

All of the models are two stories. The homes are available in a choice of three exterior styles: Old California, Spanish and Italian.

Davidson has sold 18 homes at Cielo since the grand opening in May. With seven of the eight sales released so far, the Rice Residence has already proven itself a favorite among buyers, says Davidson. This model is base priced at $899,900.
